Coated braid is the most versatile hooklink material. The stiff coating prevents tangles on the cast, while stripping back the coating near the hook creates a supple hinge for natural bait presentation. It works with most rig styles including the popular German rig and blow-back rig.
Leadcore pins your mainline to the lakebed over the last few feet before your rig, keeping it away from feeding carp. Use it on clean, debris-free bottoms where carp are pressured and line-shy. Avoid leadcore over sharp gravel or near snags where a break-off could trail heavy leader material.
For mainline, 12-15lb mono or 20-30lb braid covers most situations. Hooklinks typically range from 15-25lb. Use heavier lines near snags or weed, and lighter lines on open, clear waters where carp are cautious. Always match your line strength to the size of fish and terrain.
Braided hooklinks are supple and allow natural bait movement, ideal for pop-ups and bottom baits on silt. Monofilament hooklinks are stiffer, offering better anti-tangle properties and aggressive hook turns. Fluorocarbon hooklinks add near-invisibility underwater for pressured carp.
